Challenge

A Global automation leader, dependent on scarce magnets vulnerable to supply risk, partnered with Altrove to optimize its portfolio of ferrite-based electric motors.

Coordinating with electric motor design and multiphysics R&D teams, Altrove’s main targets were set:

  1. Increase coercivity of state of the art available ferrites on the market

  2. Maintain BHMax

  3. Maintain expected cost of material manufacturing

  4. No rare earths allowed

Solution

Altrove optimized the system in a closed-loop:

  1. AI/ML-based active learning, guiding synthesis.

  2. Fast synthesis in altrove’s lab facilities, from powder to pressed magnet.

  3. XRD Characterization and magnetic properties measurement, feeding data back into 1).


Impact

During a 12 week first iteration process, altrove far outreached its objectives. After delivering results, altrove will perform an optimization v2 phase to increase even further the specifications, as well as start including into the boundary conditions

This demonstrates Altrove’s AI-lab flywheel’s efficiency, and paved way for industrial testing and scale-up
